Enshrouded Figures is a series of illustrations inspired by René Magritte's "Les Amants."  Magritte’s obscuration of the human face evoked a sense of mystery and disquiet in otherwise mundane scenes. In our disconnected digital age, the themes of anonymity and alienation are as relevant as ever.
As humans, we glean so many of our emotional and social cues through the face and especially the eyes that when they are removed we lose our source of intimacy and sensuality. Through evolution as social creatures, we needed subconsciously to be able to pick up extremely subtle facial changes; is this guy going to embrace me or hit me with his club? Without the face as their emotional guide, viewer have to take all of their context from the scene itself.
